RSPB Lochwinnoch

It has been too long since my last visit to the RSPB nature reserve at Lochwinnoch. The staff are very friendly and helpful, as are the visitors I spoke to in the photo hide.

Within a short space of time I had seen at least a dozen species of birds, some of which were too quick or distant to be captured by my camera.

I have promised myself a return visit shortly.

Male Chaffinch with a tasty morsel
Lesser redpoll beside a pond
A pair of  Mallards
Male Mallard
Male Siskin on a tree stump

Lochwinnoch bird sanctuary

What better way to spend a few hours on a beautiful spring afternoon than to go to the RSPB sanctuary at Lochwinnoch.

Birds and visitors were both out in numbers to enjoy the sunshine. Needless to say, my focus was on the feathered ones.

Great tit perching on a branch
Coal tit having a refreshing drink
Robins are more often associated with winter
Female chaffinches are less colourful than the males
Goldfinch taking seeds from one of the feeders
Lesser redpoll with its distinctive red forehead
Female mallard walking through the grass
Male mallard looks to be calling out to the female
Great spotted woodpecker on top of a tree stump

RSPB Nature reserve, Lochwinnoch

A lovely spring afternoon for a trip to the RSPB bird sanctuary. I've a feeling I will be back for many more visits.

Everybody knows this little chappie, a cheeky robin

A male chaffinch with a seed in its mouth

The femaile chaffinch is not so colourful but just as pretty

A great tit looking directly at me
